September Goals

Guess what? Today is the 4 year anniversary of my very first post. (Okay, I wrote this post on the 2nd, but I scheduled it for the 5th ^_^). Anyhow, just noticed these little milestones in my humble blog.
I kinda took a hiatus from goals this summer. Things got a little crazy and one reason being I quit my job. August 31st was my last day as an administrative assistant. I miss the environment--coworkers, being around people every day, earning money--but I was burned out and I'm ready to focus my efforts on writing. I've got a few employment ideas up my sleeve, and I'll let y'all know as things develop.
So! My goals for this month:
-Figure out some sort of routine. It's strange to think of all the time I'll have (for a few weeks, at least). I need to have a routine to make sure everything gets done, both what needs to be completed and that which I want to do. Gotta have balance, right?
-Write every day... an on-going goal for me. Daily habits, even those that I love to do, are not easy for me to implement.
-Do some home projects ... paint the kitchen, (finally) hem the guest room curtains, paint some of my living room furniture, and arrange our bedroom, to name a few.
-Practice the piano every day, and I mean really practice. Maybe I'll even break out the Hanon exercises...

That's pretty good, eh?

We Have A New Receptionist At Work

He has some grooming problems.
And he doesn't speak very good English.
Or any language, for that matter.

I don't think it's going to work out.

Happy Secretaries' Day!

Dear everyone,
"National Professional Secretaries Week and National Secretary's Day was created in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam. Klemfuss recognized the importance and value of the position to a company or business. His goal was to encourage more women to become secretaries. Using his skill and experience in public relations, Klemfuss, promoted the values and importance of the job of secretaries. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of secretaries.
Today, the title is changing and evolving. But, the recognition is equally important. There are two new terms in use today. They are "Administrative Professionals" and "Executive Admins". The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities to different companies. Both are broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original "Secretary" role.
The name change recognizes and acknowledges that the role has changed significantly since 1952, and for the better at that. And in Harry Klemfuss' day, these postions were the realm of women. Today, you find some males in these positions.
The most common ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:
Flowers
Cards, often with shopping gift certificates
Take them to lunch
Candies
Assorted Gift Baskets"

When Angela and I discovered Secretaries' Day (or Administrative Professionals' Day, to some) we knew we had to celebrate it. So how did we do it?

With signs.

A cake.

And picture taking.

Yay for us!
